Etienne Drian  (1885-1961)

20th Century French Artist best known for fashion illustrations, art deco style, figure paintings, and engravings.

Hand signed limited edition etching on paper

Titled "The Sultan's Palace"

Created circa 1920

Hand signed lower right--see photos

Image: 15"x 18" Frame: 22.5"x 25.25"

Looks good/fair, in original "as found" untouched condition, age tone/matte shadow, foxing, minor surface abrasions, waves in paper, not examined out of the frame, frame has minor wear--please look at photos carefully. Glass is too large and will be removed before shipping.

Great looking composition by Etienne Drian depicting an Orientalist style court scene bustling with nobility figures and courtesans, while a monkey swings from the pillars. This is a fine example of Drian's etchings with a fantastic subject. My price of $699 is extremely reasonable and far below what one would be expected to pay for it in a gallery or at auction.

Please check out the other artwork in our store on ebay. We regularly feature newly acquired artwork, from antique and vintage to contemporary and modern. Select the "See other items" tab on our page.

Biography:

Drian (1885 - 1961)
Designer
and decorator, Drian lived in Paris in the late nineteenth century . His women are represented as dressed in the fashion of 1900 dolls. His thick line evokes the gauzy fabrics and delicate folds of clothing. The elegance of women, and their views endessous circumvented poses are reminiscent of Helleu style. These designs reflect the work of the fashion designer for Art and Fashion, Happy Life, and The Gazette of Fashion.
