Jaco Pastorius' 1962 Fender Jazz Bass

Jaco purchased this Fender Jazz Bass in 1970. Known as the Bass of Doom it featured on all of his recordings including solo albums and collaborations with Weather Report, Joni Mitchell and Pat Metheny.
Originally a fretted bass, Jaco removed the frets himself, replacing them with wood putty and coating the fingerboard with marine resin.
The Fender Custom Shop released a series of Bass of Doom replicas in 1999.
