У травні 1999 року, у Запоріжжі, з ініціативи Експедиції Підводних Археологічних Робіт (ЕПАР) було розпочато унікальний проект під назвою «Запорозька чайка». Його метою було вивчення, підйом та реставрація великого козацького човна 1738 року - унікальної пам’ятки, знайденої на дніпровому дні поблизу о. Хортиця.
Запропонована книга є своєрідним підсумком проведених робіт, вона висвітлює не тільки археологічні дослідження під водою, техніку підйому, методику консервації судна, але й маловідомі історичні факти, що стосуються перипетій воєнного суднобудування першої половини XVIII століття.
CHAIKA: Boat of Ukrainian Zaporozhian Cossacks Army
In May 1999 in Zaporozhye on the initiative of the Expedition of Underwater Archaeological Works (EPAR) a unique project called "Zaporozhska Chaika" was launched. Its aim was the study, lifting and restoration of a large Cossack boat from 1738 - a unique monument, found on the bottom of the Dnieper, near the island of Khortytsya.
The offered book is a peculiar result of the carried out works, it highlights not only the archaeological research under the water, lifting technique, methods of preservation of the ship, but also little-known historical facts about the twists and turns of military shipbuilding of the first half of the 18th century.
