A Jewish National Fund /Keren Hayesod lapel pin. A Jewish pioneer operates a jackhammer above the text "Settlement of the Mountain" in Hebrew. Likely made in the 1950s. The JNF issued pins commemorating celebration cycles and to publicize their development objectives.

During the 1950s, great efforts were made by the JNF to develop Jewish land in the mountainous Galilee and Jerusalem area. The tree in the pin design references JNFs famous tree-planting initiatives.

Pin is in fair condition. Please inspect pictures before purchasing. The original vintage pin style features a straight need with no safety clasp found in more modern pins.

About the Jewish National Fund:

Founded in 1901 with the mission to purchase land for Jewish settlement in Ottoman Syria (the Land of Israel), the Jewish National Fund is one of the most prominent Zionist organizations in the world. Their iconic blue charity boxes were found in many Jewish homes across America and pre-war Europe leading up to and after the founding of the State of Israel. During this era these JNF charity boxes were the most recognizable symbol of Zionism, encapsulating the efforts of Jews around the world to establish a homeland in the Land of Israel.

By 1939, 10% of the Jewish population of the British Mandate of Palestine lived on JNF land. By 1948 at the founding of the State of Israel, the JNF owned 54% of the land held by Jews in the region.

In 1953 the JNF was reorganized as an Israeli company and officially adopted its Hebrew name Keren Kayemet LeYisrael (abbreviated in Hebrew: קק''ל). Since its inception, it has planted over 240 million trees, built 180 dams and reservoirs, developed 250,000 acres of land, and established more than 1,000 parks.

JNF is one of the earliest, most recognizable, and important Zionist organizations, making its early artifacts highly valued by collectors.
