An original oil painting by renowned British artist Phyllis Morgans RGI (1911-2001).

It depicts four children, at the water's edge preparing their baits to catch crabs.  Full of light and very atmospheric.

Signed in full lower right and also has the artist's original label verso when it looks to have been exhibited at the Haste Gallery in Ipswich. Titled 'Baiting for the Crabs' and has a number 291190 which I would take to be the date (29th Nov. 1990).

Painted in oils on canvas and in excellent condition.

Well presented in an antiqued gilt wood frame with an inner insert of linen type material.  The frame is in excellent condition.

Measures 28 x 33cm including the frame.  The painting only is 17.5 x 22.5cm.

Postage £6 to mainland UK, £20 to mainland Europe and £38 to the USA.

Phyllis Morgans was a painter, born in Enfield.  She went to St Martins School of Art, initially studying Fashion Design but later turning to painting, mostly portraiture and illustration.  After her marriage she lived in Dursley in Gloucestershire and continued to paint exhibiting with The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and having a considerable number of solo shows in the Cotswolds area.  She became a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art (RGI) and was made an Honorary Freeman of the Society of Painter-Stainers.  She won awards for her work including a national contest organised by 'She' magazine and her work was reproduced, a number in the Laing calendars.
Morgans moved to Walberswick in Suffolk in the early 70s where she continued to paint and exhibit.  Her work is held in a number of public and private collections including the Norris Museum in St Ives, North Hertfordshire Museum, Ashwell Village Museum and others.
