AVILA STAR was AVILA (1929)


Built by John Brown & Co., Glasgow, Scotland for the Blue Star Line as a 12,872 GT ship with dimensions of 538 ' x 68'. Twin-screw, 16 knots, steam turbines, two masts and two funnels. Second funnel was a dummy. Overall after lengthening was 569' and tonnage increased to 14,443 GT. 

Torpedoed and sunk by enemy submarine off Portugal July 5, 1942. Ex-AVILA.

 Sister ships: ALMEDA STAR, ANDALUCIA STAR, ARANDORA STAR and AVELONA STAR.
