Soviet Order of Maternal Glory, 2nd class, #920121.

This is a GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL Soviet decoration made at the USSR Mint and officially issued by the Soviet government, not a recent copy!

 

This is a beautiful, extremely well-made award. The medallion is in SOLID STERLING SILVER and high quality “hot baked” enamels while the suspension device is made in silver-plated brass and enamels. The little star in the center is a separate part attached by a rivet. The total weight of the silver medallion alone (not counting the suspension and connecting link) is 27.1 grams – well over 3/4 of a Troy ounce! The medallion measures 41.3 mm tall including the eyelet (not including the suspension and connecting link), 29.7 mm wide. The individual serial number 920121 is engraved on the reverse, under the stamped mint mark.

 

This decoration was bestowed upon women who gave birth to and reared no less than eight children.

 

The medal is in GREAT CONDITION! The enamel on both the pendant and suspension device appears perfect to the unaided eye and shows magnificent luster, free of serious flaws of any kind. There are a couple of microscopic surface flakes at the bottom of the suspension that are completely invisible without magnification, but the enamel has none of the usual significant flaking, chips, fractures or excessive rubbing. The enamel everywhere on this piece is completely original: there are no repairs of any kind. The details of the mother and child on the medallion are perfect and beautifully crisp. The serial number is original and unaltered. The pin attachment is fully functional.
