The world is filled with culinary delights, but the original dish that best conveys the taste and centuries-old culture of Ukraine is Ukrainian borsch. For Ukrainians, borsch is more than just a dish. Over time, Ukrainian borsch has gained worldwide recognition, becoming a symbol of Ukrainian cuisine and the embodiment of Ukrainian tradition. Borsch is revered everywhere, and the recipe is passed down from generation to generation.
In 2022, UNESCO added Ukrainian borsch to the list of intangible cultural heritage in need of protection, which is intended to spread knowledge about Ukraine's cultural and gastronomic traditions around the world.
The obverse of the coin features the small State Emblem of Ukraine in the upper part, with semicircular inscriptions to the left and right of it: UKRAINE, year of minting - 2023; denomination - 5/UAH; below - the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center is a woman cooking Ukrainian borsch against the background of a stove, symbolizing the continuity of the people's life, warmth, comfort, prosperity, family happiness, decorated with a Trypillian motif that embodies the centuries-old history and tradition of cooking borsch.
The reverse of the coins features a stylized composition filled with traditional Ukrainian flavor and everyday life: in the center is a plate of borsch, which symbolizes the deep Ukrainian culture and traditions like a "stormy lake", and the inscription Borsch (decoration element is tampon printing).
