Bakongo stone maternity figure NTADI

The Mintadi (singular: Ntadi) are commemorative stone statues
In the culture of the Kongo people, tombs are places of contact between the living and spirits
These sculptures, which represent respected figures,
are deposited there, as well as personal objects of the deceased

The stone statues of Bas-Congo are generally attributed to the Bambona, a sub-group of the Bakongo
