JMU Professor Horace Burr, Jr. was born on February 9, 1912 and died on October 29, 2001 at 89 years of age. He was a descendent of Founding Father, Aaron Burr. Resided in Charlottesville, Virginia (Albemarle County). Was Chairman of the Department of Drama at James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA) from 1965-1977 and then the Curator of Fine Arts and Arts Conservator from 1977-1983.

UVA Professor Helen Gunderson Burr began teaching in 1953 and became the first woman-in-residence at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA). She was the Chair at the Department of Speech Pathology, 1961-1978, and was the first female chair at the university.
