Description:
One of the most iconic LMU (Latin monetary union) gold coin, the 20 Francs Rooster. Let me tell you something more quoting a little description of the coin: French 20 Franc Marengo in the version with the effigy of Marianna (portrait of J. C. Chaplian) and the Rooster de France. Minted from 1899 to 1914 with the French motto LIBERTÉ EGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ on the reverse.

They were struck to a standard set by Napoleon in the early 1800s so they are sometimes referred to as Napoleons. Gold 20 Francs were ubiquitous in the European economy up until World War I. In the 1890s, France introduced the rooster design of yours and made an alteration to the edge inscription beginning in 1907. A huge number of the 1907 through 1914 dated coins were melted to fund the French War effort during World War I. In the 1950s, the Prime Minister of France Antoine Pinay created a bond scheme that was tied to gold 20 Francs and almost 40 million of the 1907 through 1914 dated coins were struck bearing those dates.
