It is noteworthy that in 2023, for the first time, Ukrainians celebrated St. Nicholas Day simultaneously with the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — on 6'th of December . In honor of the coincidence of the two holidays Ukrposhta prepared a corresponding charity postal issue. In the postal issue "Gifts of Saint Nicholas" in the interpretation of the famous Ukrainian illustrator Kostya Lavro, it was possible to combine two holidays that are significant for Ukrainians. Having preserved the traditionally childish image of St. Nicholas - a kind grandfather-magician, the artist masterfully recreated and supplemented it with relevant details. Yes, Nikolai does not fly through the sky on a sleigh, but rides on a Cossack horse. Behind his shoulders is a camouflage bag filled with military equipment: airplanes, tanks, missiles, which are extremely necessary for the Ukrainian army for our Victory.
The postage stamp symbolically depicts the victory over the enemy: under the horse's hooves, the symbol of Russia is crushed - a double-headed eagle, which Nikolai pierces with a stick, as if with a spear.
