The print offered here is an engraving that was an illustration in a book published in 1789 by John Stockdale, "The Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay....".    The shark, which is apparently rather small, was first seen by Lieutenant Watts in Sydney Cove, Port Jackson and thus is known as Watts's Shark, but also has the name Wobbegong shark.

The engraver, Peter Mazell (active 1761-1802) was an Irish printmaker who worked in London and primarily created engravings of natural history subjects, as in this case.

This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off.  Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions".  For example, offered maps are of the period.  Please check my other listings for additional items of interest.  I will combine shipping.
