This listing is for a china (porcelain?) figurine doll authorized by the United States Historical Society for the "Great American Women" Series, commemorating famous women in American history. The doll depicts Priscilla Alden.

This doll is referred to as a "dressed half doll" because the doll has a head, torso, and arms, but not actual legs or feet: her skirt covers a cone-shaped base that allows her to stand without a doll stand.

The original (from which the limited edition of 9500 dolls) was designed by the "master sculptor and doll artist, Virginia Orenyo Davis. She is a famous doll artisan in the dollhouse miniature field. You can see her eye for detail and expertise in this figurine.

Technically, this doll was likely issued as and intended to be a collectible figurine, as there are numerous additional "Great American Women" (and other historical series) figures. However, given its size (appropriate for 1:12 scale) and its lovely details, thanks to Virginia, it can serve quite well as a dollhouse doll in a one-inch scale setting. Obviously it is not poseable.

This Priscilla Alden figure has long blond hair extending below her white cap and blue eyes, all hand painted on. She wears a simple grey dress made of cotton fabric, with a white cotton apron tied in the back. The grey bodice is hand painted onto the ceramic body, but the skirt, apron, and blue ribbon tie at her collar are made of fabric.

She is designed in a fixed position, with her arms in an animated position. She holds a tiny red rose bud in her right hand (glued in place).

Her skirt is full length, so there are no feet, but the understructure allows her to stand upright. There is a label affixed to the bottom which identifies this doll as part of the Great American Women Series, specifically doll #6829 of a limited edition.

There is a Certificate of Authenticity (doll number 6829) in the original box. The box is in very good shape with only minor age-related wear. The doll is in excellent condition. It is possible it has been previously displayed by its prior collector, but there are no chips, damage, stains, or wear, and it comes with all its original packing materials (except any bubble wrap that may have originally been included).

This is a perfect addition to your collection, whether you collect these historical figurines or simply wish to populate a miniature scene with a noted member of Massachusetts's Plymouth Colony of Pilgrims and the wife of fellow colonist John Alden, or simply a pilgrim woman from the 1600s.
