The large print offered here was part of the "Musee Francais" series.  In this series, published between 1803 and 1824, paintings in French museums were presented in engraved form by well-known, at the time, French engravers and printmakers.

This engraving was made by Jean Desaulx (1789-1834) after a painting by the Flemish artist, Paul Brill (1553-1626).  There is no title on this example, but at the bottom of the page the following has been written in pencil: "Pan et Syrinx 1807", suggesting that this is a proof engraving before the final title was added.

There is a final (that is, not a proof) example in the online collection of the British Museum at No. 1859,0806.483.  In their example, below the image the title is printed ("Pan et Syrinx.") followed by the name of the series ("Musee Francais.").  The British Museum gives the date of production as 1803-1809.

The dimensions of the piece are:  height 13 1/4 inches (platemark) by 16 inches (sheet) and width 18 1/2 inches (platemark) 21 3/4 inches (sheet).

This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off.  Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions".  For example, offered maps are of the period.  Please check my other listings for additional items of interest.  I will combine shipping.
