Title: Ensemble Allegria Condition: New Description: EDITORIAL REVIEWS When Dvorak premiered his Eighth Symphony in 1890 in Prague, the audience witnessed one of the most beautiful symphonies from the high romantic era. This generous and brilliant symphony is not only a truly melodic composition, but also an original contribution to the symphonic repertoire. Also on this CD is an adaptation of Dvorak's famous American string quartet for woodwinds, recorded by the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Wind Quintet. A modern and stylistically flexible symphony orchestra, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic demonstrates an artistic flair that allows for a variety of styles, from classical to contemporary, in a historically authentic manner. Chief Conductor Edo de Waart is responsible for the orchestra's main repertoire. Drawing on his vast orchestral experience, as former Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (among others), he contributes to the unique character of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He works in close cooperation with Principal Conductor Philippe Herreweghe; Martyn Brabbins is Principal Guest Conductor.
