This is an album page signed by Lou Gehrig with an auction house letter of authenticity from JSA. The album page is an enhanced 9.5 meaning that it is an original autograph of Lou Gehrig obtained nearly a hundred years ago but enhanced with fountain pen at around the same time.
According to the JSA letter that accompanied this Lou Gehrig signature when purchased at auction, this:
"Original autograph of Lou Gehrig was obtained in the early 1930s in person in the Boston area. Unfortunately, the original owner decided to not leave well enough alone, and enhanced Gehrig's signature with fountain pen. We believe this was not done to be malicious, and was probably the work of a dedicated youngster as so many other lesser autographs from his collection (hundreds) received the same treatment. Were this not enhanced, this would be a $4 - 5,000 autograph it is so nice. The most affordable Gehrig you may ever see.
Please note the back of the page has seven enhanced autographs from the same era."
So if you are looking for a real signature of the incomparable Lou Gehrig, with great aesthetic appeal that displays beautifully - this is probably the nicest Lou Gehrig you are ever going to find in this price range.
As noted in the JSA letter and visible in the photographs, the back of the page has other enhanced signatures from contemporary players, fortunately they don't seem to bleed through very much and do not seem to be visible when displayed in a frame.
