An exceptional desk inkstand, this incredible bronze high relief sculpture has been brightly gilded and its presentation is fit for a King or Queen! The top lid features a very lifelike depiction of a sitting Borzoi Russian Wolfhound Dog. The base has a ribbed casket design with amazing rams heads as well as griffin heads and feet serving as supports. The lid removes to access the interior which has two inkpots with white porcelain inserts. There is a central recessed box to store stamps or wax seals.

No makers marks, we believe this is European in origin, likely French as gilded bronze was popular in France. Circa 1900, this inkstand is very well made. It's solid and weighs an impressive 10 pounds! Measures 10.25 inch wide, 5.5 inches deep and 7.5 inch high. Very good condition, bright gilding, some signs of wear, age oxidation to metal and light scratches. There are some chips to the rims of the porcelain ink inserts. Please review the photos for further assessment.
