Up for auction is a rare find, a vintage Wilardy purse
3 tier with handle
The photos show more then we can say in words on how beautiful this is.
This 3 tier style, in the lucite color was called ‘Butterscotch’, featuring an amber grain light tortoise like pattern, beautiful gold details, and an interior mirror with some staining or foxing, you can see in some of the photos there is a reflection thus the mirror is useable. .(please see photos)
This is stamped with the Wilardy name on the inside hinge under the mirror.
The mirror as you can see in the photos shows some discoloration but for it’s age it is pretty nice for a collector to have this piece in their collection.
On the bottom is a scratch and a spot that is textured as if it was near heat or a chemical reaction or something, we don’t know as this is how we got the item. The marks are not noticeable as they are lower on the box.
The color is pretty amazing, the butterscotch with a bit of amber shows off the beauty of this purse.
The lower part (all not including the handle) measures about
6” wide
4-1/2” tall
5” deep

Brief History of the Company: Wilardy Originals began in 1946 as Handbag Specialties, a collaboration between Charles William Hardy, and William Hammond Hardy. The original offices and factory were in New York, and moved to Union City, New Jersey in 1953. Will Hardy took over the business in the 1960s, and continued designing and manufacturing into the early 1980s. Most of these Box and various shape lucite purses were manufactured between 1946-1980. During this period Will designed lucite handbags, lighting fixtures for Dinico, lucite bathroom fixtures, elegant containers for Atlantic Can, also a chest of drawers for Jacqueline Kennedy, chandeliers for the White House, jewelry, tableware for the Grainware Company, and even clothing. These lucite purses were being sold in Hollywood, Miami, Paris, London, and Fifth Avenue in New York. These last few decades have shown a renewed interest in the Wilardy handbags, as they become sought-after collectibles.
We are selling this for much less then we feel it is worth.
