This antique Japanese fishing float, likely dating from the WW2 era is a stunning piece of maritime history. The globe is a large (approximately 11") pale green blown glass , now faded to almost clear from age and wear, held by a rope sling. There is a pontil on the bottom, with the rest of the globe smooth glass.

This float is pre-owned, but it is in overall good condition. It does not show any breakage or cracks and is solid and in good shape, with most of the wear to the rope sling, which is quite frayed, but still holds together well. There is some cloudiness in the glass as well as light surface scratches in places, that probably could be buffed out, if desired. However, the aged patina attests to its antique history and shows wear from its use as a fishing float.

When found, this treasure was covered in heavy layers of dust and grime, indicating that it likely sat uncovered in storage for many years.  I have cleaned off the surface dirt, but will leave any further adjustments or polishing to the next owner.

This float will make a stunning addition to any maritime collection, and even better as a unique and unusual decorative centerpiece.  Measuring about 11 inches, it is a nice size for display, as a stand-alone piece, or as part of a collection.

The float is made of a heavy and thick glass and is the kind commonly used by Japanese fishermen for their nets. It is a great find for those who love  maritime artifacts. This float is a unique and rare item that captures the essence of a time in history that is long gone.
