A stunning ornate solid silver large trophy cup dating to the British
Raj in India. Dated 1924, it commemorates a Golf tournament for the Jute
Mills of the Henderson Group. Jute is a long, rough, shiny bast fiber
that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. We have not been able to
find information on the Henderson Group but it was likely a
multinational company based in the United Kingdom. We have another
trophy from the previous year listed separately.
The cup has
thick curved handles with a bright mirror like finish. The trophy
appears to have been handled minimally over the years. Good condition
with light wear and few very small dents. Please review the photos for
further assessment. The cup bears full English hallmarks. Heavy and well
made, cup alone without base weights 323 grams. Measures 6.25 inches
high, 4.75 inches across the top and 3.4 inches across the bottom. It
comes with a 4.74 inches by 2.25 inch ebonized wooden base that is
removable.
A handsome display piece for a table of shelf. Check out our other antique listings.
