Lot of 500: 95% Copper US 1-Cent Pennies for Craft Projects or Bullion

This is a Set of (500) Copper Lincoln Memorial Penny 1-Cent US Coins, Mixed Dates 1959 to 1981.  Not hugely valuable as far as collectibles, but still they are very interesting and fun to use for a variety of projects... ponder that.

95% Copper... These are Lincoln Memorial pennies from 1959 to 1981, which are 95% and 5 % mix of tin and zinc, with a weight of 3.11 grams (less wear and tear over time). Part way through 1982, the US Mint switched to a zinc-clad coin which is 97.5% Zinc, and 2.5% Copper. Why? Cheaper to produce, and the demand for copper for industrial use, like for electrical wire, is very strong. Natural supplies of copper are less than they used to be, especially where laws in the US have restricted domestic production. For whatever reasons, pennies are no longer copper. This makes them increasingly rare and semi-collectible.

"Bye Bye copper pennies... " This marks an end to the copper penny era, which in this country had been 95% copper since the countries founding. Still, we find the Copper Lincoln Memorial penny is common circulation. And in itself, it is only worth a penny... unless you consider the value of Copper Bullion. Do your own research, but collecting pennies for bullion is increasingly popular. And as time goes on, the numismatic (or coin) value will increase also for these common coins. Besides, this is a nice way to start collecting coins, especially to teach children about coins, money, finance, etc.

Consider using these for key rings, chains or pendants. Coins can be made into rings, necklaces, and other jewelry projects. Pennies are sometimes used in craft projects, tiled floors, and other uses. Certainly they are a nice starter set for collectors, or to give as gifts. Consider the book below...

Shipping: A penny weighs nothing, 500 weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. With packing materials and the box, this item ships at 4 pounds. No easy ways around it, the cost to ship these is costly.
