The fabric is knitted slowly and carefully with air on a 100-year-old "hanging knitting machine" still in existence in Wakayama Prefecture, and its greatest feature is its exquisite tension and comfort that wraps around the body.

We utilize a traditional falling loopwheel knitting system where fabric is suspended in the air and knitted using its own weight as a counterbalance. This method can only knit one meter of fabric per hour, but produces a very fine and high quality knit. Due to low production capacity, there are only a few hundred of these machines in operation today. This method, while painstaking, is an integral part of creating unique fabric expressions in our signature BARNS knits.

BARNS uses an uneven yarn made from rice cotton, and in order to keep the dry and crisp texture, we chose an uneven yarn that has more fluff than ordinary yarns. The yarn is used to keep the texture dry and airy.

The softness and rough texture are created by knitting the fabric slowly so that the yarn contains air. The binder neck is sewn between the body and the neck ribs, which is also seen in vintage garments. This is one of the innovations to ensure elasticity and durability, and to be used for many years.

A hang knitting machine is a machine that knits fabric in a tubular shape. Therefore, the fabric is made without any joints on the sides, called "Marudo", and is used as it is. The body is finished in a tubular shape, making it difficult to adjust the size, so the "sleeve attachment angle and sleeve width" were devised.

The line that follows the body from the shoulder area to the arms was adjusted, and the width of the sleeves was fine-tuned. The result is a universal silhouette with a sizing that looks great as a single piece of clothing. While adopting a vintage-like design, it has become a piece that is easy to wear both in and out because of its universal and modern silhouette.
