Le couvercle du filtre à huile pour les moteurs BMW M52/M54/M56 est conçu pour permettre à l'utilisateur d'ajouter un refroidisseur d'huile externe afin de réduire la température de l'huile sans avoir à remplacer l'ensemble du boîtier du filtre à huile. Un mécanisme d'étanchéité spécialement conçu dirige l'huile vers les conduites du refroidisseur et à travers le filtre à huile.
