Antique, silver plate Art Nouveau era, 1890- 1910, Walker & Hall,spoon warmer is made by, Walker Hall, made in Sheffield, England and is stamped,Walker & Hall, Sheffield, 11010, and has the Walker & Hall pennant. Itis circular in shape, with domed ends, sit on four legs, opens at the front toput in the spoons and has a handle for lifting. The embossed designs are in a typicalArt Nouveau style.
This spoon warmer is 135 mm., in diameter, 75 mm., deep and weighs 580grams.
 Art Nouveau or "New Art")is an international style of art, architecture, and appliedart,especially the decorative arts. It was popular between 1890 and1910 during the Belle Époque period and was a reaction against the academicart, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture anddecoration. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curvesof plants and flowers Other characteristics of Art Nouveau were a sense ofdynamism and movement, often given by asymmetry or whiplash lines.
Walker & Hall were established in Sheffield in 1845 by GeorgeWalker. Becoming an assistant of Dr. John Wright who had conducted importantexperiments on electroplating Walker secured the royalty of electroplating forSheffield. The business was joined by Henry Hall and became in 1853 Walker& Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms wereopened in 45Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool,Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull,Bristol, Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa),Wellington (1911) and Auckland(1914) in NewZealand, Walker& Hall was converted into a limited liability company in 1920 under thestyle Walker & Hall Ltd and combined in 1963 under the British SilverwareLtd with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co. Walker and Hall Sheffieldwere primarily Sheffield Makers, but items with Birmingham, London and ChesterAssay Marks can also be found

This heavy silver-plated spoon warmer was pre-owned, in averagecondition does have a dent on the edge, does not have any plate loss, other dents, deepscratches or gouges. . It does have minor marks and scuffs, commensurate withusage, wear and age. .Seller’s ref. R101
