VINTAGE 1960'S *ALTA* SKI AREA DEEP POWDER SKI POSTER ~ MINT!
SIGNED Personally by the Skier in the Poster!!

This is one of my favorite ski areas in the US! They are still one of the last hold outs for skiers only (Sorry snowboarders). The history of the town of ALTA goes way back as one of the oldest ski resorts in the country. The first lift was spinning back in 1939. Alta is known for being situated in very high altitude and receives more snow than most Utah resorts. Its annual average snowfall is over 514"! The skier shown here is a fellow named Merlin Bingham who was with the Ski School in Alta at the time of this shot. Note the first PSIA patch on his sweater! Recently I was contacted by his son where both he & his father gave me more info to update my listing. It is an honor to sell a poster that you actually know the history of the photo shot for this poster.

Here is a little history to share...Merlin got introduced to Earl Miller. He then passed the ISIA (Inter-mountain Ski -instructors) in 1955. At the time if you were a ski instructor and joined the army you automatically qualified for 'Mountain & Cold Weather Training' in Colorado. In '55 there were only a handful of guys who were in the ISIS, the Engin brothers, Earl, & a guy named Keith Lange. This is how Merlin got to be a ski trooper and did some racing for the army. After his discharge, he joined the PSIA which had formed and included the ISIA. Merlin recalls the shot taken of him back in 1963. I have included a present day photo of father & son to add to the coolness factor here. Merlin still skis today & he just turned 90!
