Here is a stunning, just about mint condition pair of 8x40s from Leitz, Wetzlar: with pristine blemishless glass. I have not gone inside and cleaned the trace fog that all but inevitably presents in vintage binoculars, but will do so free of charge at the discretion of the buyer. Nevertheless, the view is currently very sharp and clear. The 8s are the cream of the Trinovid crop in many ways: bright with no jitter in the hands: and a capaciously wide field! It is well known that modern binoculars do embody optical refinements such as phase correction and dielectric prism coatings, as well as computer assisted stray light corrections. But what is also well known in circles of serious viewers is that Leitz is awfully sharp, much more compact, much lighter, proven MODULAR durability. It becomes a personal choice, but most users of Leitz Trinovids are either older people who never felt a need to exchange what they had, or younger people who had previously owned $2000 European binoculars and finally arrived at the Leitz decision: the naturalist's choice.
