"Old-School" Tumbler Rough

Product description

Aguascalientes, Mexico Mine Run Fire Agate Rough for Rock Tumblers 8 oz. Mixed B & C Grades. Nice Potential. Maybe some surprises! A superior practice "beginner's" grade for Rock Tumblers and novice carvers. Not a lot of visible "fire". Priced Accordingly. Substantial Chalcedony & matrix. Fire agate, a variety of chalcedony, is a semi-precious natural gemstone discovered so far only in certain areas of central and northern Mexico and the southwestern United States (New Mexico, Arizona and California). Approximately 24-36 million years ago these areas were subjected to massive volcanic activity during the Tertiary Period. The fire agates were formed during this period of volcanism when hot water, saturated with silica and iron oxide, repeatedly filled cracks and bubbles in the surrounding rock.As the solution cooled, the silicate and iron oxide began to grow layers of chalcedony, typically forming botryoidal; grape-like formations. It is predominantly brown, with layers of creamy browns, whites, reds, blacks and grays. Some may include layers of yellow ochre, gold, scarlet and red. Agate is sometimes called the earth rainbow because, in its various forms, the concentric bands in nature form nearly every color the earth can produce, including a colorless form. See images above for random examples. "FIRE" potential is unknown until tumbled. (We would not anticipate much "fire" but the results can still be satisfying-see image above of polished examples). This bag weighs 8 oz. and will contain an average of 5-10 pieces (depending upon weight). Great refill for any beginner-novice tumblers, i.e., NSI, National Geographic, Dr. Cool, Smithsonian, Elenco & Pro Models Lortone, Chicago & Others. NOTE* This Bag DOES Not contain Grits, Findings, jewelry parts, adhesives that may have been included with the original tumbler accessories. WARNING-Choking Hazard! Use Tumbling instructions from the tumbler manufacture
