Jean Lurcat (French, 1898-1966) Started his artistic career in Paris where he frequented the circles of Picasso and Marcossis. He was an important and successful Painter of the Ecole de Paris, he single-handedly revived tapestry making as an art form in the 1930s, he also worked in a multitude of other media including printmaking, ceramics, engraving and book illustrations. He exhibited extensively in France and internationally and his work is held in a number of public collections notably Musee Nationale d’Art Moderne, Paris. Museum of Modern Art, New York.
