Wheel bearings support your vehicle's weight, are responsible for ensuring smooth rotation of the wheels and and radial alignment of the axle. A worn bearing can cause the brake disc to fall out of alignment with the caliper making the pads drag on the disc, or on drum braked vehicles, in addition to dragging brakes axle lubricant can leak past seals onto the brake shoes.

Signs of wheel bearing wear can include a loud "growling" noise appearing to come from the wheel area when the vehicle is movng or noticeable play when the wheel is grabbed at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and tipped in and out while raised off the ground. In extreme cases the steering and handling may appear vague or loose.
