Joseph “Joe” Plaskett RCA OC (Canadian, 1918-2014) Grew up in New Westminster, British Columbia. He studied at Vancouver School of Art 1940-45, then continued his studies with Hans Hoffman, New York. Fernand Leger, Paris in 1949; Slade School, London in 1951 and then studied etching and printmaking with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17, Paris, 1953-1954. He lived in Paris from 1951 although he returned frequently to Canada for teaching posts and exhibitions. Plaskett exhibited frequently with over 65 Solo and group exhibitions at Waddingtons; Bau-Xi Gallery, the Jerrold Morris, the Wallack and Klinkoff Galleries and elsewhere. His work is represented in many important private and public collections notably National Gallery of Canada. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; a member of the The Canadian Group of Painters. In 2001 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his excellence in the field of Visual Art.
