Antique pewter tankard. This is possibly pre 1800’s. It was obtained from a serious collector’s estate along with 100’s of other pewter items. We made an attempt to take a clear image of any stamp or initials to help buyers identify the makers as well as the date range it was created. We do not have exact dates for these items and can only make an educated guesses on the original date of creation. We leave the search open to the buyer.

Details about collection: Some of the pewter in our shop have stickers with numbers on the bottom. These appear to be the serial numbers of the items when originally purchased at auctions. Some of the pewter can be compared to items sold at Sothebys or Christie’s Auctions for $5,000-$150,000. The collection appears to never have been polished or cleaned, all pewter items appear to be in good condition.

Pewter is a metal which has been used for the production of household and other items in Britain since Roman times. Once the Romans had left in the 5th century little pewter was made here until the craft was reintroduced in the 12th century, probably by Cistercian monks. In the 17th and 18th centuries pewter would have been found in many homes collections.
