An original October 1, 1962 issue of the Gadsden (Alabama) Times with the large headline "Negro Attends Ole Miss Classes, Battle Rages in Downtown Oxford" following the admission of Black student James Meredith. The headline is accompanied by eight other smaller articles on the riots plus photos of US Marshalls standing guard and federal forces marching.  There are several other related articles inside, plus Letters to the Editor.

The lead article begins with "Negro James Meredith registered today at the University of Mississippi and began attending classes on a campus littered with the debris of a major riot that took two lives and injured at least 75 persons. 'It is not a happy occasion,' he said."

About 15" x 24", 10 pages, toned with age (a bit tanner than my photos) but still supple and not brittle. Displays extremely well.
