The Australian Silver Kangaroo is the first Australian silver coin struck in 99.99% fine silver and 2016 marked the first time the kangaroo has appeared on one of the mint's silver bullion coins, having previously only appeared on gold bullion pieces.
The reverse design features an image of a hopping kangaroo at its center, with textured rays of sunlight emanating outward in all directions. Inscriptions atop the artwork include "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" and below it are "2016", "1 OZ., and "9999 SILVER." The Perth Mint's mint mark, "P", is to one side of the design. As with all Australian legal tender coinage, the obverse design has Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and inscriptions that include the face value of the coin, "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA."
