NIKON ECLIPSE TE200 INVERTED PHASE CONTRAST RESEARCH MICROSCOPE WITH LED ILLUMINATION + PRINTED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

You are invited to purchase a very nice Nikon Eclipse TE-200 Inverted Phase Contrast Research Microscope set up for both phase contrast and brightfield microscopy using modern LED illumination. The microscope comes complete with a set of printed operating instructions for the microscope in a 3-ring binder.

This is a very nice and robust Nikon research grade inverted microscope for the academic researcher or laboratory clinician on a budget or, alternately, for the serious amateur microscopist. It has been completely refurbished, tested and is ready to be assembled and put to use right out of the box.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

This Nikon Eclipse TE-200 microscope is built on a very sturdy and relatively heavy TE-200 base. Horizontal stabilizer bars located at the rear of the microscope base provide superb stability to the microscope stand and tend to help attenuate any ambient vibrations.

This TE-200 microscope is equipped with a Nikon 12V 30W Halogen Lamphouse mounted on the top of the illumination pillar. In this case, the conventional Halogen bulb has been replaced by a more modern 12v 30W LED bulb. Normally illumination would be controlled by an ancillary Nikon TE-PS30 control box with cables working through a built-in side illumination dial on the left side of the instrument. However, in this case, this Nikon control box has been eliminated and replaced by a new 120v AC to 12v 8 amp DC transformer along with a light intensity control box mounted on the left rear side of the microscope stand. This upgraded illumination system provides excellent bright 3000K illumination for both brightfield and Phase Contrast microscopy and eliminates the need to frequently replace Halogen bulbs. A spare 12v 30W LED bulb is included with the microscope.

Located in the front of the lamphouse is a built-in filter module that is equipped with three (3) filter sliders including a ND (neutral density filter), a NCB (neutral color balance filter) and a GIF filter (Green Interference Filter). Although not clearly shown in one of the accompanying images, all 3 sliders are present.

This microscope is equipped with a Nikon ELWD (extra-long working distance) Phase Contrast Condenser Turret equipped with a Nikon Dry 0.3 NA Condenser Lens Cell. The condenser has five (5) positions: Three (3) of which include phase contrast annuli (PhL, Ph1 and Ph2), A (an open port for brightfield), and C (dark blank). Other components of the condenser include a condenser aperture diaphragm at the A position and dual adjustment knobs found at the top of the condenser for centering the phase annuli.

This instrument is equipped with an ample 210mm by 220mm rectangular fixed stage with a removable all-metal central stage plate with a central aperture of 25mm. This stage is designed to handle both standard and large glass slides as well as culture dishes of various sizes.

Under the stage is a manually operated sextuple (6-position) rotating objective holder that is designed to accept CF160 infinity corrected 25mm threaded objectives. Included with the microscope are the following Nikon phase contrast objectives:

* Nikon Plan Fluor 4x/0.13 PhL DL Infinity/1.2 WD (working distance) 16.4 mm objective.

* Nikon Plan 10x/0.25 Ph1 DL Infinity/- WD 10.5 mm objective.

* Nikon LWD (long working distance) 20x/0.40 Ph1 DL Infinity/1.2 WD 3mm objective.

Located under objective holder is a slot for an optional analyzer lens on a slider. In lieu of this slider, a blank open port slider is included in this slot.

This microscope is equipped with a Nikon Eclipse TE-TL binocular eyepiece tube with a binocular head and built-in optical tube turret. The optical tube turret has the following settings: O, B, M and C. The O setting is for normal viewing, the B setting is for a focusable Barlow Lens used for centering the phase objective light rings and an M setting for a 2.5x magnification of the field of view at the eyepieces. The C setting cuts off the field of view at the binocular head completely and is used for film or digital microphotography via a side phototube. The intraocular distance between the eyepiece tubes is adjustable from 50 to 75mm. The head is equipped with a matched pair of Nikon CFI 10x/22 wide field eyepieces. The binocular head on this pillar is also adjustable in height to suit the needs of the user.

This microscope is equipped with a side photoport found on the left side of the instrument. This port can be used to capture digital still or video images with a DSLR camera, mirrorless digital camera (MD camera) or with a CCD camera (cameras not included). Shown in some of the accompanying images for illustrative purposes (but not included with the microscope) is a C-mount adapter that can be used to mate either a DSLR, MD camera or CCD camera to the microscope at this location.  A lever found on the right side of the microscope directs 100% of the light to the binocular head or, alternately, 100% of the light to the side photoport.

Finally, included with the microscope is a printed set of Operating Instructions in a three ring binder. Included in the manual are detailed instructions for the setup, operation and maintenance of the microscope.

STATEMENT OF CONDITION:

NOTE: The attached images of this microscope are considered to be a part of the statement of condition of this microscope.

In general, this instrument is in very good to excellent cosmetic, mechanical and optical condition and is ready to be set up and used right out of the box. This is a very robust and relatively heavy microscope that will be broken down into its logical components and very carefully packed and shipped in two (2) cartons.

The objective lenses, eyepieces and filters that accompany this microscope are in very good to excellent cosmetic and optical condition with no known internal defects.

The optics in this instrument combine to offer some very nice views at the eyepiece. We have used this instrument to view and image several prepared slides. Accompanying this listing are some sample specimens imaged with this very microscope.  To create these images we used a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 DSLR attached to the side photoport on the instrument to capture the images from prepared slides.  Included with this listing is an image of this DSLR attached to the photoport of the microscope (NOTE:  A C-mount photo adapter and the DSLR are NOT included with the microscope.  They are shown to illustrate how similar DSLRs or Mirrorless Digital cameras can be used with this microscope to obtain excellent images).

Mechanically, both the coarse and fine focus systems work smoothly without binding. The condenser turret and the objective turret rotate freely.
