Rare Antique James Macintyre and Co Match Striker The Absent Minded Beggar - Rudyard Kipling - c1900 - Boar War interest. 

Glazed pottery Match Striker produced in the late 19th century by James Macintyre and Co Burslem England. Brown transfer printed illustration ‘ A Gentleman in Khaki ‘ by Richard Carlton Woodville and extracts from the famous poem   ‘ The Absent Minded Beggar ‘  by Rudyard Kipling. Written specially for the second Boar War 1899-1902.

Kipling along with Sullivan from the Gilbert and Sullivan Partnership and the Daily Mail began a movement which raised thousands of pounds for impoverished Soldiers and their families who fought in the Boar war.  ( Facinating information on the internet ). 

Approx 7.5 cm high x 10 cm diameter.

Condition : Good Antique condition. Crazed. Heavy wear to gilding at the top. Some tight hairlines around the opening. Nick at the top. 

Makers printed mark. Pattern number B3371
