Written to "Dear General Turner" (General Sir Alfred Edward Turner)

"I may have to go abroad before the 5th of July, but I shall be delighted to dine with you at the Junior Constitutional Club on that day, to have the honour of meeting The Duke of Cambridge, if you will kindly let me leave it an open question for a time. If I have to go abroad I shall be able to let you know in plenty of time to invite another guest. Yours sincerely S deA C Clarke"

Major-General Sir Stanley de Astel Calvert Clarke, GCVO, CMG (Died 1911) British Army officer and courtier. Educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst and commissioned into the 13th Hussars. Subsequently exchanged into the 4th Queen's Own Hussars and served with the regiment in India for five years. Equerry to the Prince of Wales, Private Secretary to the Princess of Wales. Clerk Marshal and Chief Equerry to Edward VII. Serjeant-at-Arms in the House of Lords.
