A watercolour with gouache by modern British artist Ginny D'Santos (born circa 1935).

One of the best equestrian portraits I have had the pleasure to offer for sale it depicts a bay stallion in a stable, eating from a hay rack.   Beautifully painted, the horse conveys a real sense of movement with his swishing tail, arched neck and glossy coat.

The picture is further enhanced by the sweeping brushstrokes of blue, yellow and green.

Titled, signed and dated in green ink along the bottom edge  'Stallion at Des Haras du Pin, France. Ginny D'Santos '89'. Also has the artist's label verso with the title, her name and Surrey address.

Note Des Haras du Pin is one of the oldest of the French National Studs and can be found in the Orne District of Southern Normandy.

Painted in watercolour with bodycolour on watercolour paper.  In excellent condition.  Well presented with an ivory coloured card mount within a dark wood frame. The mount is in excellent condition, the frame is good but note two small scratches on the right hand edge (see sixth photograph above).

Measures 44 x 54cm including the frame, the visible painting only is 27 x 39cm.

Postage £8 to mainland UK, £30 to mainland Europe and £55 to the USA.

Ginny D'Santos was born in London and studied at Southport School of Art.  She returned to London and started work in an art studio where painters were employed to paint work for Boots - at this time Boots sold and framed paintings and even had libraries and cafes in some of their shops.
Ginny then moved into Advertising producing art work for advertising and animated films during the 70s and 80s and was later involved in the creation of titles for the newly launched Channel 4.  She is a member of a number of art clubs and societies with which she exhibits regularly.
She has had a life long interest in horses, beginning when she worked in a stables as a young teenager. She travelled around France in the 80s visiting the National Studs which is when she made the sketches for this other similar paintings. This painting was exhibited and sold at the Mall Galleries in an exhibition held on behalf of animal charities.
