Gibson 1989 Les Paul Standard Reissue Flame Top Cherry Sunburst "Pre Historic"

Description

This is a 1989 Gibson Les Paul Reissue, commonly known as the “Pre Historic” Gibson Les Paul Reissue, which is rarely seen.

From the late 70's to the early 80's, a return to vintage ('59 Burst Les Paul) reissues began with dealer-order models such as Leo's, Guitar Trader, and Jimmy Wallace. The Heritage 80 was also released as a project by Gibson, and was succeeded by the 58 Vintage and 59 Vintage, but the series that was consolidated and unified from around 1984 is this Les Paul Standard Reissue.

This series was produced as the top model at the time, and of course it has vintage style items such as the small head and ABR-1 bridge, but the biggest feature is that carefully selected wood is used for each part. .
In particular, the top maple is a high-quality straight-grained material with tiger stripes appearing evenly across the wood. As proof of this, the pickguard was not installed at the factory, and there are no traces of installation even now.
The tiger eye that has come out so clearly is probably at the level that is used by individual builders and other brands for the highest class. You can feel the beauty created by nature even from the slightly rough grain of the control area.

The mahogany on the back is also selected to be of high quality with beautiful wood grains.
These days, it is rare to see beautiful mahogany boards, so it is no exaggeration to call it a precious material.
The PU with no signs of replacement seems to be a Gibson 57 Classic. The front escutcheon has been replaced with the current model, but other parts are original. There is a chip on the top of the truss rod cover, cracks on the rear escutcheon, small dents, and signs of use, but considering the model year, it is in good condition overall. The frets/nut have been replaced, but the nut is slightly lower and about 60% of the frets remain. The neck condition is normal and there is plenty of room for the truss rod. The electrical system also works well.

Of course, the appearance is not as faithful as the later Historic Series, but it still retains the atmosphere unique to the 80s, such as the dotless "i" in the brand logo, the bright reddish sunburst, and the brown back plate. , I think it is an essential piece in the history of Les Paul. The slender neck is also characteristic, and is recommended for those looking for a thin neck.
