sehr guter Zustand / very good condition - To try to reconstruct the Arab-Islamic Memories in Portugal and of these mount an exhibition is a difficult task. This long temporal thread from the 8th century up until now has had many encounters and perpetual entanglements but also - and if it is about memory we can say - of painful mistakes and misunderstandings that in the 15th century led to a political attempt to eradicate Islamism from the Portuguese territory. However, an indestructible cultural heritage was woven meanwhile, indifferent to the stories of History; independently of the forms throughout the centuries it has assumed, since the Gharb al-Andalus that the Portuguese cultural identity has been span by the matrix of Arab-Islamic civilisation. -- To speak of this culture projects us into a dangerous game of mirrors in which closeness and distance are often confused and sometimes not very clearly disentangled. -- It was the invitation, accepted by the collaborators of this work coming from different subject areas, to share common seductions and the recognition of a consanguinity: the others - so it is said by culture and the more recent studies in genetics - are us, returning home after an involuntary separation. -- Linked in three great nuclei - 1. Muslim Expansion and the Gharb al-Andalus; 2 - "Qalbi Arabi": The Arab-Islamic Heritage in Portugal; 3 - Fascinations and Returns: the Rebirth of the Muslim Culture in Portugal, this exhibition will be essentially itinerant, being first in Portugal and later in the Arab world ( Kuwait, Bahrain, Abu Dabi, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, and North Africa ). -- The materials exhibitid are above all of a written nature, but are complemented with replicas representing various Muslim art forms in Portugal ( pottery, tapestry, decorative glazed tiles ) and contributions from the nautical, mathematical and medical domains. The photography will show the contemporary Islamic presence in urban, civil, and religious architecture, in such ways that are part of the Portuguese society and in cultural events expressed by the Islamic community which presently lives in Portugal, and contributes in an unequivocal way to its contemporary identity.
