1859 Antique Book Signed by Edward Everett The Story of the Gray African Parrot

This book was signed by Edward Everett when he gifted it to a young, Master Frank Everett Peabody (1856-1918).

Harry Gringo, author of the book, is pseudonym for Henry Augustus Wise.  Henry, married Edward Everetts Daughter, Catherine Brooks Everett.  This could easily be one of the first prints of this book.  During the Civil War, Mr. Wise was promoted to commander of the USS Niagara and, later,  was promoted by Lincoln to Chief of Bureau of Ordnance

The book is in a bit rough condition with a few pages not attached.  The signed page is attached to the book.

Edward Everett was a great statesmen of his time.

His resume includes:

Governor of Massachusetts

US Senate for Massachusetts

Secretary of State (Fillmore)

House of Representatives for Massachusetts

Minister to the UK

President and Teacher of Harvard University

One of the most esteemed orators of his time. He was the featured orator for the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery.  He conducted a two hour long oration for the ceremony which was immediately followed by the far more famous speech by President Abraham Lincoln known as the Gettysburg Address.

This signature has not be certified but definitely matches up with those I see online.
