Offered for sale is a copy of L. Strachey's masterpiece--(very probably) the greatest work of life-writing authored in the last century--in its first edition, the first impression, of 1918, a true rarity, at low price. 

This volume was withdrawn from a library and retains the usual stamps, stickers, and paste-downs. The dust jacket is lacking; some foxing is in evidence. All six portraits are present,* as is the tissue guarding the frontispiece. The label, bearing the title and the author's name, has suffered some loss, and the gilt top is heavily faded. The binding is firm, but the hinges are tender. The volume is mildly cocked.
