A fun and usefull strawwork box its has lost a lot of its pattern from the lid but the sides front and back are really great. The lock works and the lining appears to be original. If there is any craft that could particauly do with a revive then it is straw-work the simpler formates are so easy and the deeper full picture style so complex and clever its a craft that could be developed over a lifetime.

Ok so let's see if i can describe what a keepsake box is and what i am trying to do around the idea !!
When i was young and throughout my adult life,i always had a box or a tin or maybe only a drawer to put my special things in. Not a box to put my valuable things in, that was another. Just a box to put the things that were mementoes of a time and place that i could only return to in my memory and the things i kept were the keys to unlock those memories. The funny thing is that most of my friends and family also have a box for their mementoes or keepsakes, but if asked will not know when they started or who taught them the tradition its almost as if it is a part of being human to have a keepsake box but they don't have a title and they,( in this world where everything has a price) do not have a value or quality control or minimum standard! And of course, they should not. But we could do better
So another thing just under a year ago i made restoring and dealing in boxes for my living (great fun) mainly writing slopes, sewing boxes (we don't call them workboxes anymore) , vanity boxes (as if you could contain such a thing) and so on. I really like old boxes and their craft and the statements they make and i love to make them shiny and loveable again to last another hundred years. So i get a little upset when a box i can see is magnificent is too badly damaged to be cost-effectively restored. Of course, i restore them and justify it to myself in different ways. But here's the thing - now that i buy boxes that are special and sell them for storing special things people buy them and are happy when they get them.
I hate it when things that will never be made again get damaged and go to landfill so i hope i have much competition, but HERES TO THE KEEPSAKE BOX TO WRAP AROUND YOUR MEMORIES
All the Best steve
