Horse Racing Painting, Epsom Downs, unknown horse, vintage circa 1940s-50s.  Maybe someone will recognise the silks and also the horse

Thankyou for looking at this wonderful painting, it was done by my grandfather 1888-1968, he became a commissioned war artist after meeting Arthur Streeton, please follow link in this description.

He painted horses after his commercial advertising company in England was commissioned to paint an advertisement for riding habits worn by the royal family. He outsourced the artwork to the most celebrated horse artist Alfred Munnings (so our family story has always been told) my grandfather wasn't happy with what he was presented with so painted it himself. He then, being the obsessive man he was, studied and painted horses as one of his favourite subjects for the rest of his life and I am truly lucky to have a beautiful oil of me on a Shetland pony as a small child.

He spent a lot of time at the race meets at Epsom Downs studying horses and this is one of those wonderful paintings. The pictures show everything you need to know, it will be securely wrapped and supported for safe delivery. Please go to awm.gov.au/collection/C177661
