Up for sale is this used, 22 Fret, Left handed Maple Kramer beak headstock neck with the Kramer Floyd Rose Signature model logo on the headstock and a standard right handed nut installed.

I have a lot of speculation as to what this neck could be but one thing it clearly is, it’s a Left handed Maple Kramer Beak Headstock neck, from the early 80’s, with a standard right hand nut installed. 1984 saw the Banana Headstock neck era so this is more than likely a 1983 beak headstock neck that never got used at the Kramer Plant in New Jersey.

This is the way this neck came to me attached to a Floyd Rose Signature Guitar Body that was raw wood and unfinished and had a standard two point tremolo installed. I’m not sure if this was assembled from parts sold at the Kramer plant in New Jersey during their bankruptcy auction sell off or not. I know that Kramer never offered any Floyd Rose Signature guitar model that didn’t have a Floyd Rose Bridge Factory installed so it had to be from some left over parts that came from somewhere.

This is a odd neck and very rare to say the least. This left handed Kramer beak Headstock neck has a standard right hand nut on it which was obviously done by a previous owner not the factory I would think. Or at the least if this is the original nut it was filed by the previous owner to be right handed. Either way this is not what makes this neck unique. It is the fact that it was not routed for a Floyd Rose locking nut but it has a “Kramer Floyd Rose” Signature guitar model logo on the headstock. It looks to be original but I’m not a Kramer historian nor am I a expert on these early beak headstock necks, so I can’t say for sure but it is NOT a water slide decal from what I can tell. It is however under the clear coat. Again this is a very oddball neck to say the least. The other thing that makes this a real oddball neck is that it is left handed. This neck also has a nut width of 1-3/4”.

The clear coat finish on this neck is not a very thick high gloss finish like the Focus series necks out of Japan, but rather a semi gloss finish if you will. (See Pics) there are a couple chips in the clear coat on the headstock. (See Pics) There is some clouding of the clear coat on the face of the headstock which can only be seen at a angle in the light, which maybe why this neck was never used by the factory, as it may have been deemed cosmetically flawed who knows. The neck itself is a fantastic player. Not much use as you can clearly see from the pics of the neck, frets, and the fret board.

The 1-3/4” wide nut area would suggest that if this neck had been routed for a locking nut it would have been a R-5 lock nut. There were apparently R-5 Nut beak necks produced near the end of the beak headstock era moving into the Banana Headstock era. There were even some R-5 pointed headstock necks produced but not sure if those were for warranty replacement necks or custom ordered but they do exist as I own one of those as well.

It is said that these beak Headstock necks were produced by the company “Sports” which was in Canada if I recall correctly. Sports also produced some of the banana headstock era necks as well.

The neck has two sets of mounting holes. One from the original body I pulled it from, and the other from the body I built with this neck and just parted out. I sold the Floyd Rose Signature Body that this neck came off of long ago and decided to use this neck and it plays great. I’m now older and downsizing my collection so this neck is going up for sale.

All the American Kramer Beak Headstock necks were routed for Floyd Rose Locking Nuts at the Kramer Factory in New Jersey and all the Focus Series Beak Headstock necks were routed at the ESP factory in Japan. As all those necks were originally manufactured with the standard nut slot like this neck has. It’s not until the banana neck era that the manufacturers started to route the locking nut shelf.

Neck is straight and the single action truss rod functions as intended.

Frets are in great shape with plenty of life left.

There are left handed black side marker dots.

Right handed standard nut installed.

The neck heel on this neck is 2-3/16”.

22 fret 25.5” scale length.

1-3/4” width nut area.

This neck is made from hard maple with a rosewood skunk stripe down the back of the neck.

There was a Floyd Rose String retaining Bar installed at one point. I removed it as the neck seemed to work fine without the string tree installed.

This neck to me, feels like it has a thin but wide profile. Most of the beak headstock necks were not known to have had thinner profiles, at least from what I’ve read online. But the beak headstock necks were typically R-2 locking nut or 1-5/8” nut width as well.

The rosewood skunk stripe on the back can be felt along the seam in some areas of the skunk strip.

I had this neck mounted to a Kramer Pacer Deluxe body and I used a non fine tuner Floyd rose bridge and a set of locking tuners. This neck played just fine without any issues. I decided to part this guitar out which I will be doing with a few more guitars in the coming weeks and months. I have way too many guitars and need to down size as the saying goes.

I have way to many guitars and a bunch of parts as well that need to go as I need to thin the herd as they say so certainly no need to build anymore guitars.

Over all the finish and condition of this neck are in good condition. I do have more pics of this guitar neck if you need to see anything specific as eBay only allows for 24 pics to be added to the listing.
