1996 Bronx Telephone Directory---- approx. 9 inches x 11 inches... approx, 1000 pgs
Unusual cover illustration features Keating Hall (located at the Fordham University Bronx campus)
This
book is divided into 2 sections----- White Pages Alphabetical
(Residential Listings) and Yellow Pages (Business
Advertising/Classified Listings)
With computers and modern technology telephone directories have become totally obsolete.
Some years ago, Verizon completely stopped distributing telephone books in New York.
You
could only receive a book if you requested it. Anyone who wanted a
directory from outside the area which they live would have to pay a
hefty fee to obtain the book. Of course--- this would only apply to a
CURRENT phone book for the CURRENT year.
Older directories (such as this one) are NOT AVAILABLE from the telephone company (or anywhere else).
This
directory is in VERY nice condition. There is no scribbling, no
cut-outs, no loose pages, etc. The binding is strong and the book is
complete.
Bronx/New York borough directories that are usually
seen for sale contain either white pages OR yellow pages----- again,
this directory has BOTH (white pages and yellow pages).
These
directories are very useful for doing many different types of local
research on businesses and/or residents of the Bronx. It is gives a
glimpse into what the area was like during that particular time period.
Here is a fabulous piece for any serious Bronx historian..... a nice bit
of memorabilia from over a quarter of a century ago.
