This 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible is a gorgeous example of one of the finest convertibles ever produced by the General Motors marque. 1953 was a significant year in Buick's history with the GM marque celebrating its 50th Anniversary. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Buick released one of the finest vehicles in the company's history, the Buick Skylark. While the Skylark made its formal debut in 1953, its origins dated back to 1952 when General Motors took its "Dream Car" convertible prototypes on the national show circuit. The GM Dream Cars consisted of the Chevrolet Corvette and the trifecta of the Cadillac Eldorado, the Oldsmobile Fiesta, and the Buick Skylark. Although virtually all prototype show cars are merely show cars, these GM Dream Cars all were put into limited production by General Motors for the 1953 model year. The Buick Skylark rode on Buick's Roadmaster chassis but had a brand new look both inside and out. Up front, the most significant changes occurred to the front fenders which had special white or red painted wheelhousings and Buick's iconic "Venti-Ports" were noticeably absent from the Skylark, which made it the only car during Buick's "hole era" to not sport the 3 or 4 hole design. From the side, the Skylark's silhouette was also impressively different from Buick's other models since the Skylark featured a lowered roofline with a more raked back look. The sides also were outfitted with special Skylark-specific chrome sweepspears that further elevated the look of the car. In the rear, modified quarter panels and special emblems completed the exterior look of the unique Skylark. The Skylark's interior was also unique to the special anniversary model, topped off with numerous standard accessories and options such as power steering, power brakes, Dynaflow automatic transmissions, and other items. All '53 Skylarks were also outfitted with wide whitewall tires mounted on chrome wire wheels. In total, Buick produced a mere 1,690 1953 Skylarks which with its $5,000 original MSRP price tag made it one of the rarest '53 Buicks. This particular example comes to with a Buick Club of America (BCA) Silver Award Plaque that was earned by a previous owner of this fine automobile. Under the hood on this '53 Skylark is a 322 Cubic Inch "Nailhead" V8 fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 188 horsepower when new. The 322 Nailhead V8 is mated to a Dynaflow Automatic Transmission that makes this 50s cruiser an easy car for just about anybody to drive. This 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible comes absolutely loaded with options! With power steering, maneuvering into a tight parking space at the local car show or drive-in is a total breeze. Power brakes is another wonderful inclusion on this '53 Buick Convertible since it makes bringing this 4,300+ pound cruiser to a complete stop much easier. The white vinyl power convertible top is in wonderful condition and it goes up and down with the simple flick of a switch. Riding on a set of wide whitewall radial tires mounted on chrome wire Kelsey-Hayes style wheels, this '53 Buick Skylark has a great look and even better ride. A rear-mounted continental kit adds another element the '50s flair of this iconic Buick. The exterior has been correctly refinished in Mandarin Red paint that completes the exterior look of this beautiful convertible. The interior of this 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible is absolutely gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been correctly reupholstered in Red and White leather. Additionally, the front bench seat is also power adjustable so that just about anyone can reach the pedals. The door panels, red carpeting, Mandarin Red painted steering wheel, and dash are all in wonderful condition and appear to retain a nice stock appearance. All 4 windows are powered and go up and down with the simple flick of a switch. Instrumentation includes a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, generator gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash is completed with a locking glovebox, clock, climate and lighting controls, a cigar lighter, and Sonomatic AM radio. If you are looking for a great addition to your existing classic car collection or you want your very first truly special classic car, we have the car you have been looking for.
