A large waterclour painting by renowned artist Sydney Vale F.R.S.A. (1916-1991).

It is a view of the coast of Dover, a ship coming into the port below the famous white cliffs on which stands the fabulous Dover Castle complex.  

Signed in full lower right.  Not dated, estimated to be 60s or 70s.   A biography of the artist is pasted verso.

Painted in watercolours on an Oram & Robinson watercolour board.   In very good condition, no mount marks, foxing or staining.

Well presented with an ivory coloured card mount within a washed wood frame. Both mount and frame are in excellent condition.

Glazed and ready to hang.

Measures 69 x 83cm including the frame, the painting is 48 x 61cm.

Sydney Vale was a renowned watercolourist and teacher of painting.   He is best known for his coastal and maritime scenes which have been sold by prestigious auction houses such as Sothebys, Bonhams and Christie's. Vale was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Artists, a member of the Langham Sketch Club and one of the best known members of the Wapping Group of Artists who focus on Thameside views.
