Antique Silver Knitting Needle Guards

Continental * Circa 1870

These antique silver knitting needle guards have vase-like forms with ribbed bodies and acanthus leaf details at the tops. They have nicely embossed details. They are not marked, but the guards and chain test solid 800/1000 pure silver. They are probably from Germany or the Netherlands, but I lean toward Germany due to the lack of a mark. They are connected by the original fused link silver chain. There is a hook at one end of the chain so they could be adjusted. They were used to put on the ends of double pointed knitting needles so the knitting wouldn't slide off.

One has a split at the side and some small dents, but the overall condition is nice, secure and usable. The other is in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. Each guard measures 2 1/4" long and the chain is 7 1/2" long.

I stand behind everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as presented.
