Rare Ottoman Illustrated magazine newspaper, dated 16 June 1926, from the early years of the Turkish Republic
proclaimed in 1923. On the
cover is a photo of Karadeniz (Black
Sea) steamship converted to a floating fair, which sailed from
Istanbul on 12 June 2026, and three photos overlapping each other - 2 photos of
exhibition rooms and items, and a photo of the sailing ceremony (last picture
at the bottom) with probably Ghazi Mustafa
Kemal Ataturk himself (not sure
though). The ship sailed to Europe
and visited 12 countries and 16 cities among which important European cities
such as Barcelona, London, Hamburg, Stockholm, Helsinki,
Amsterdam, Venice, and Copenhagen.
About
the project: traveling to Europe of Karadeniz (Black Sea) ship from port to port,
was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's own project to promote the new image of modern
Turkey. It
was a mobile exhibition taking samples from the Turkish art and civilization to
the Western ports, first of its kind, the international public relations
ship of young Turkey created with the vision of exporting.
On
the back cover there are two photos from the coronation of Iranian Reza Shah Pahlavi, the founder of Pahlavi
Dynasty in Iran, which took place on 26 April 1926.
